Jorge Vinueza Garcia was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1975. He discovered his passion for photography in 1993 and since then he has found in the image his way of expression.
His wide experience in photography includes being part of the photography staff at El Comercio, one of the most important newspapers in Ecuador. During his work here, he was awarded with the first place in The Graphic Designers Association of Ecuador Contest and achived the Honorable Mention in the Inter-American Press Society Photography Contest.

Later, he worked for other publications as El Hispanic News in Portland, Oregon were he obtains the first and second places for three consecutive years in the Hispanic Publications National Association Contest (2001-2002-2003) for images of the Cirque du Soleil, Broadway in Portland and subjects of interest for the Hispanic community in the United States. He also published at The Yoga Northwest Magazine.
In 2004 he collaborates with the France Press Agency and by the end of the year he decides to start to work as independent photographer. On November 2004, AELLA the Paris Photography Festival chooses one of one his photographs to participate in the Festival. On July 2005 he wins the First Place in the Jorge Mantilla Ortega Contest for his Photo Essay “Vida de Topos” about the life of the miners in Zaruma and published in Soho Magazine.
Currently, he lives in Quito where he works as independent and project photographer carrying out different assignments for international Agencies as Bloomberg News (New York), Archivo Latino (Argentina), El Mundo Newspaper from Spain and other foreign publications.
In Ecuador, he works for the GKA Corporative Communication Group, Soho Magazine, Mundo Diners Magazine, FONSAL, Patriminio de Quito Magazine, TRAMA Publishers, among others.
In November 2006, Jorge Vinueza achieves the publication of his first book called Afrodisiaco with a particular photographic concept. In the same year his second book Tren al Sol is published, a view of Ecuador from the steam train.
He also contributed to the production of the book Ecuador Infinito and La Mirada y La Memoria a photojournalism book.
Jorge Vinueza is always looking for creative and challenging projects. At the moment he is developing personal work that soon will be published. He is dedicating most of his interest to the photography of the Andean culture which is his way to show the essence of a very alive and rich country full of moments to portrait for the world eyes, always with respect and self criticism. |
